Class Schedules

Evening class runs ten and a half months, beginning May 3, 2010. Class meets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6pm to 10pm. Day class runs eight months long, beginning September 13, 2010. Class meets Monday through Thursday 9am to 1pm.

Instructors

Our instructors are allied health professionals. In addition to their educational backgrounds, our instructors are in active practice, bringing both academic and clinical information to the student. This combination enhances the students' learning as practical information from the field is correlated to the scholastic foundation in the classroom.

Location

The American Institute of Massage, Inc. is located at 10960 Three Chopt Rd. Richmond, VA 23233, near I-64 & I-295. Map and directions.

Objectives

The American Institute of Massage, Inc., trains students in the following areas: Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and Pathology Massage Theory and Practice taught in four parts:

  • Part I. - Massage
  • Part II. - Trigger Point Massage and Myofascial Release
  • Part III. - Acupressure Massage
  • Part IV. - Neuromuscular Massage
    • In order to become a Certified Massage Therapist in Virginia, you must become nationally certified, and certified under the Virginia Board of Nursing. Each student is responsible for meeting all requirements in becoming certified.

      Description of Program

      Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology (200 Hours): students study the structures of the body and how they function. Kinesiology: students will study information related to body movement. Massage Theory and Practice(400 Hours)

      Part I. Massage - Will train the student in a specific therapeutic massage. Also provides strong knowledge base of massage practices from around the world, including ancient cultures, and how some techniques have stayed the same while others have changed to adapt to the needs of the 20th century. During this part of the course the student will learn techniques in Corporate Chair Massage, Sports Massage, Reflexology, Massage for the Elderly, Massage during Pregnancy, Infant Massage, and Hydrotherapy. Ethics for the massage therapist will be taught within this course.

      Part II. Trigger Point Massage and Myofascial Release - Teaches what trigger points are and how to find them. Students will map and deactivate trigger points.

      Part III. Acupressure - Introduces the student to Yin and Yang energies, basic meridian theory and the use of thumb / elbow pressure of varying intensity over tsubo and acupoints. Students learn how to integrate Acupressure techniques.

      Part IV. Neuromuscular Massage - Will teach principles of Neuromuscular Therapy which affects nerves and muscles. It specializes in isolating individual muscles and treating them from their origins to their insertions.

      Student Loans

      The American Institute of Massage offers installment plans and student loans please contact the office for specific details. AIM offers a wide range of programs specifically designed to help students finance their education.

      Financial Information

      The 600-hour course at the American Institute of Massage, Inc., is offered for a tuition of $4950.00. Installment plans are available. There will be a $75.00 nonrefundable application processing fee that must accompany the application. Students will be responsible for providing their own linens and lotions. Text books must also be purchased by student; this cost is subject to change. Students must also wear scrubs to class.

      Employment Assistance

      The American Institute of Massage, Inc., is in constant contact with possible employers and offers to its students the opportunity to keep a resume in their file. At the request of the student, A.I.M, Inc., will release names and resumes to prospective employers.

      School Tours

      The American Institute of Massage, Inc. welcomes the public to tour our facilities. Tours are conducted by appointment 7 days a week and are free of charge. The curriculum and subjects related to massage will be discussed. Prospective students are encouraged to call for an appointment to view our facilities prior to submitting an application for consideration.
